If you have a refractive eye condition (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism) and are tired of the hassle that wearing glasses or putting in contact lenses every day entails, our
Bethesda optometrist at Fulton Eyecare Center has an excellent alternative for you to consider. Orthokeratology is a popular service provided by our Bethesda optometrist that allows you to see clearly all throughout the day without wearing your daily lenses or putting on your eyeglasses. It is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure that will allow you to instead wear special gas-permeable lenses at night that shape your cornea while you are sleeping. You will then be able to take the lenses out in the morning and see clearly for the rest of the day without any corrective accessories. These gas-permeable lenses are often referred to as vision retainers, and they help to relieve many of the problems associated with daily wear of contact lenses such as dryness or contamination of the lenses with foreign particles.
Orthokeratology Bethesda
The process of getting your own customized vision retainers and starting to use them each night is very simple. The first step is to visit Fulton Eyecare Center where you will receive a comprehensive eye exam from our
Bethesda optometrist. From there, we will use advanced corneal typography mapping in order to fabricate your vision retainers to suit your individual needs. Then we will evaluate the fit and make sure that you feel comfortable wearing them. Our Bethesda optometrist will instruct you on how to take the retainers in and out. After your first night using them, you will return to our office and we will test your vision. Your vision will begin to be clear during the daytime within a few days, but we will continue to monitor your vision and track how your cornea is reacting to the lenses for the first few months for your safety.
If you have any questions or concerns about orthokeratology, we would love to hear from you. You can get in touch with our
Bethesda optometrist and the rest of our staff at Fulton Eyecare Center by phone, or by sending us a message on the Contact Us page located on our practice’s website. If you are ready to schedule an appointment with our Bethesda optometrist, you may do so either by calling our office and speaking with one of our friendly staff members, or by requesting your desired appointment time via the Make An Appointment page on our website. We hope to hear from you soon.
