To help diagnose low vision in Maryland, our complete eye exam usually begins with questions about your medical history and any vision problems you might be experiencing. It also involves a number of tests designed to evaluate your vision and check for eye diseases. Dr. Jacalyn R. Ely and Dr Sanford R. Cohen may use a variety of instruments, aim bright lights directly at your eyes, and ask you to look through an array of lenses. We will check your eyes with a light to see whether the outside of your eyes are functioning correctly. We have offices in Silver Spring and Fulton, Maryland to treat patients with low vision. You will need to learn new ways to use your remaining vision to complete everyday tasks and maintain your quality of life. Eye Care Center of Maryland understands the challenges experienced when one is diagnosed with low vision. Whether it is Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Cataracts, Retinitis Pigmentosa or Diabetic Retinopathy we have a low vision solution. Vision loss is normal to some degree, especially as people age. Most people who experience a decline in their eyesight are able to correct the problem through the use of glasses, contact lenses or surgical procedures. When routine tasks such as shopping, watching television or recognizing friends and family are difficult even when using corrective devices, a person is described as having low vision.
